An Oil Spill?  In San Juan County?

Want to help if the “big one” hits — or with all the smaller ones that do happen year-round?

On Saturday, September 26, Islands’ Oil Spill Association (IOSA) is offering one of two classes required by the Washington Dept. of Fish & Wildlife to be certified as a wildlife search & rescue responder.

The focus of this class will be HAZWOPER training (Hazardous Materials Operations & Emergency Response) and will provide safety training for wildlife rescue and spill containment responders, including an oil spill scenario and all the logistics involved in a response.

Calss participants will review the response network structure, complete a site safety plan, learn about initial assessment and impact of different types of oil, discuss shoreline types, environmental hazards and first aid and set up a decontamination station.

There is no charge for the class, which will be held at Deer Harbor.  Please call IOSA at 378-5322 to register and for specific time & location.  And check out the IOSA website at www.iosaonline.org for a complete training calendar and other information about IOSA.Islands’ Oil Spill Association Class Saturday Sept. 26
