Colorectal Cancer Screening
March is Colorectal Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer death in the
United States, but it doesn’t have to be. Island Health is working hard to make screening for
colorectal cancer easy for members of our community. Island Primary Care – Orcas is hosting a
Colon Care Day on Wednesday, March 27th. Stop by the clinic between 8 a.m.–4 p.m. to pick up your free colorectal cancer screening kit along with information on ways you can show your colon some love.
Women’s Health
Island Primary Care – Orcas offers important women’s health care in the clinic. Dr. Simpson-Manske and Susan Sandblom, ARNP are here to offer gynecological services, cervical cancer screenings, hormone replacement therapy options, birth control choices, and more. If you need women’s health care, call to schedule with either of these, or one of our other providers at 360.376.2561, or schedule via your Patient Portal at your convenience. Please note that not all services are available from all providers via the portal.
Celebrating Our Third Anniversary
Island Health is thrilled to celebrate our third year as Island Primary Care – Orcas. We believe in
making healthcare more accessible and convenient for Orcas residents, and we’re proud to
contribute to a healthier community. In 2024, we are exploring opportunities to broaden our
services offered in the clinic. In addition to ongoing family medicine, the pediatric practice continues to grow, we are exploring hybrid in-clinic pulmonology telehealth and interventional pain clinic days. We look forward to another year serving the Orcas community.

Healthy Recipe: Baked Coconut Shrimp
Next time you are craving some good old fashioned fried coconut shrimp, try this healthy recipe
instead! You’ll get the satisfying crunch without all of the unhealthy oils that come from the fry
basket. To round it all out, pair it with this homemade dipping sauce that has a fraction of the sugar found in the store-bought version. https://islandhealth.org/healthy-recipes/baked-coconut-shrimp/
Family Practice Care vs Emergency Care
Island Primary Care – Orcas is a family practice clinic, with limited urgent care availability. We are not an active emergency department. If you are having a life threatening such as heart attack or stroke, please call 911.
As a friendly reminder, please note that firearms are prohibited in the clinic.
