— from Jacob Linnes for Island Market —
This winter we are investing back into our community by bringing some exciting new features to your local market.
Our goal with these renovations is to make your shopping experience easier and more enjoyable, while also creating a better work environment for our fantastic employees. We want you to have a comfortable and smooth trip from the time you park until you leave. To achieve this, we focused on three areas:
Our Deli – The deli area is getting a full upgrade. Improved equipment in the kitchen will allow us to provide you with delicious ready-to-go food items along with the favorites you’ve come to love over the years (like crispitos!). The coffee bar will be bigger and better than ever, with a
larger selection of sweet and savory treats. Plus, we’ll offer a self-serve salad bar with hot and cold options, in addition to daily soups. Enjoy all this great food in our new 30-seat dining room or take it over to our in-store Taphouse and enjoy with a cold local beer.
Our Checkout Process – We are moving our checkstands towards the front of the store to give more room for shopping and reduce congestion in the line-up area. The new checkstands will have conveyor belts that allow the lines to go faster and are ergonomically designed so our cashiers are more comfortable. There will also be 4 self-checkouts to help customers with cashless transactions so they can get in and out fast. In addition, new medium-sized shopping carts with two levels will be offered to make shopping easier.
Our Customer’s Experience – On Orcas your trip to the market is more than a place to pick up groceries, as you walk the aisles you run into friends, family and neighbors. With the addition of Woody’s Taphouse you’ll have a place to sit and catch up with those people over a local craft beer, glass of wine, or sparkling water. Woody’s Taphouse is named after our grandfather Woodrow William Linnes aka Woody. He was a great man that enjoyed bringing friends and family together. Woody’s will have 8 beers on tap that rotate regularly with our favorites from around the region like Orcas’ very own Island Hoppin’. A state-of-the art crowler machine will
allow us to can beer for you to enjoy at home. Also, on tap will be 3 wines and several food options to compliment your beverage of choice.
We are excited to build upon our family’s tradition of being more than a grocery store to this great community. The past generations would be proud of where the market is and where we are going.
Our mission: A family of grocers devoted to the time-honored tradition
of connecting our community, one bag at a time.

Impressive! I’m looking forward to it!
Your investment in your family business will benefit all of us who enjoy the “Island Market Experience”. We are blessed by your vision for the future. Thank you.
Having self check outs changes the shopping experience to a mechanical event. When the cashiers are all gone maybe there will be an AI to joke around with…
Gregory, this was a big decision for us Since we pride ourselves on the customer experience. We believe we will be able to still provide human connection with the self check by having the right employee manage it while giving customers the privacy of checking out in their own. This will also give us the ability to keep the lines shorter in the busy season. If you have any thoughts or ideas to share feel free to contact me directly at jacob@orcasislandmarket.com or my direct line is 3603763939. I welcome ideas from anyone! :)
Sincerely,
Jacob
