Islands Red Cross nurses

Nan Barbo, RN, MN, a veteran of 80 American Red Cross deployments, came to San Juan Island at the request of Earlene Rothauge, RN, Chapter Lead Nurse, to deliver a course entitled Health Services Response Workshop for the Red Cross Nurses of San Juan Island Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Eight nurses from San Juan Island, two from Whidbey Island, one from Lopez, and one nurse from Camano Island attended the afternoon workshop.

The objectives of the Workshop were to provide assessment, triage and first aid for residents in a shelter environment and to provide community and/or partner agencies referrals for shelter residents. The nurses also became familiar with the myriad of forms that must be addressed during deployment in a Red Cross Shelter.

Bill Severson will act as Shelter Manager when the team holds its biannual drill at the Presbyterian Church on September 28 and 29, 2012. Arlin Rothauge will act as Chapter Representative for the two day event.
