— from Tara Lee for Governor Inslee’s Office —
“Washington is home to one of the nation’s largest active duty military populations with more than 100,000 active duty men, women and civilians working at our state’s six world-class military installations. President Trump’s announcement that he intends to ban transgender individuals from serving in the military is an insult to these service members and an affront to our nation’s values.

“Our nation’s security is enhanced by the inclusion of qualified men and women to serve, regardless of color, religion, orientation, birth place or gender. These men and women – as well as their families – dedicate their full lives and livelihoods to keeping Washington state and our homeland safe and secure. Each and every one of them is deserving of nothing less than our respect, our thanks and our commitment to support them in doing the best job they can.
“It’s clear this president is as intent on building up walls within our nation as he is around it. Instead of continuing to break down barriers to ensure every man and woman is granted the opportunity to fulfill their potential, President Trump is cruelly putting those barriers back. I’m proud of the work we’ve been doing in Washington to support our LGBTQ community, and I am as resolute as ever in pushing back against the forces of division that threaten our progress. Washington will continue to allow transgender individuals to serve in the National Guard until the president’s tweet is made into an official order.”

To demean those who seek to honor this nation by serving in its armed forces is more than spiteful and cruel. It’s un-American.
Bob:
Our fearless leader is very concerned about cost. It will be adding 1,000th of 1% to the defense spending.
This country should be proud that it has a compassionate conservative, as well as a fiscal conservative, at the helm.
Prez Donny is showing the World he is a leader by not doing what other major countries have done by having Transgender troops in their military. There is no doubt that Trump marches to a different toon.
What gauling pretense for unadulterated discrimination.
Per the Washington Post, the Pentagon spends $42m annually for Viagra–a far greater sum than it does on medical support for transgendered servicemen and women.
Who’s next, Donny?
oops, “galling”
(let’s leave the french out of this)
I have all kinds of reasons why I think Trump did this. It seems he is bound and determined to wipe away everything President Obama ever had his name on. He doesn’t seem to be considering the fact that everyone of people he is getting rid of will have to be replaced to keep up our number of troops. This is especially odd after him asking for so much more for the military budget. And, of course, I think the real reason he did this is because we have a mentally ill president who doesn’t have a clue what he is doing. And it would be nice if his friend and new Communications Director would clean up his language. He should be ashamed of himself. Use that language if he’s out with the “boys”, but not where everyone, including young people can see it or hear about it. The whole administration needs to grow up (or better yet be replaced). Many of them, including the president are a total embarrassment to our country. I can’t even say “President” and “Trump” in the same breath. It’s disgusting and so sad. He needs to be reminded that he’s supposed to be leading our country, not a business!
