A Senate Bill (SB 5139) currently tick-tocking its way through the marble hallways of the State Legislature declares an intent to observe daylight saving time year round, if authorized by the United States congress.

We set our clocks forward one hour at 2 a.m. and spend the next few days in increased risk. Heart attack rates rise the Monday following the time change. There is an increased risk of ischemic stroke, but only temporarily.

Research has shown the Monday after the spring time change to be particularly dangerous for drivers relative to other Mondays through the year.

Until such time as that bill passes, and gets signed by Governor Inslee, we are reminded that tonight is the night we lose an hour of sleep.
