The Washington Department of Natural Resources, in collaboration with San Juan Island Fire and Rescue, Lopez Island Fire District No. 4 and EMS, Orcas Island Fire & Rescue, the San Juan County Fire Marshal’s Office, and community partners will announce the launch of ‘Wildfire Ready Neighbors’ in San Juan County. The initiative empowers residents to proactively prepare for wildfires through FREE resources including a custom plan and an optional home visit by a wildfire expert.

Date: Wednesday, May 8, 2024

Time: 1:00-3:00pm PST 

Location: San Juan Island Fire Department (1011 Mullis St., Friday Harbor, WA 98250)

Event Highlights:

  • Speakers: Chief Monin (San Juan Island Fire District), Paul Andersson (San Juan Islands Conservation District), Jenny Coe and Josh Etringer (WA Department of Natural Resources)
  • Home Assessment Demonstration: San Juan Island homeowner Adam Greene will participate in a Wildfire Ready Home Visit at Oak Knoll Farm (1585 Douglas Rd, Friday Harbor, WA 98250) to demonstrate firsthand the simple steps residents can take to prepare their home and property.
  • Q&A Session: Engage with wildfire experts and residents about getting prepared for wildfire.
