Team OICF – Tera, Lynn, Molly, and Hilary

I am delighted to announce that Lynn Sharpless White has joined the staff of OICF as our Support Specialist. Lynn brings great organizational skills, a welcoming personality and an ability to see the big picture and will provide back up for key processes as needed. Please swing by and welcome her when you have time.

Something fishy happened on Crescent Beach this week. A huge bluefin tuna washed up on the beach, very unusual for this region of the Salish Sea. The fish is now at the UW Friday Harbor labs where they are performing an autopsy to try to figure out what the cause of death was and possibly where it may have come from. Read more about it here.

There are a few organizations looking for new volunteers this summer- the Food Bank, Recovery Rides, and Friends of Moran. All provide great programs and would welcome your support. I get so much joy from volunteering, as I love to meet new folks and learn so much more about the community. If you are interested, reach out to learn more.

Thank you to the many folks who made a contribution or pledge towards the purchase of the Pea Patch property. From $50 to $500,000, each commitment adds up and we hope to move forward with the purchase soon. There is still time to add your support to the effort, either by making a pledge by emailing or calling me, or donating to the Lavender Farm Fund.

This weekend is full of great activities. If you had Parade Withdrawal last weekend, head to Olga Daze on Saturday (10-2 in Olga Park) The parade starts at Noon. The Cider and Mead Festival is on the Green Saturday as well. It benefits the Senior Center and its great programs. The Grange is hosting UP UP UP, a performance by the Crane Truck Circus. The name alone is worth checking out! And there are free concerts at both the Orcas Island Winery and on the Village Green (thanks to Orcas Center) on Sunday evening. Hard to pick between these two great options.

We are definitely in the whirlwind of summer. I hope you are enjoying it all!
