||| FROM INGRID MATTSON for ORCAS ISLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY |||

Established in 2023, the Ken Gibbs Fund for Youth Science Education provides lasting support for science education at the Orcas Island Public Library. Funded entirely through community generosity, the endowment makes it possible to offer inspiring science programs, purchase educational books and equipment, and provide hands-on learning opportunities for local youth.

Recent programs supported by the fund include Owls of the San Juan Islands (July 30) and Pollinator Day (August 6), and give children and families the chance to explore the natural world through engaging, interactive experiences. Since the fund’s creation, the Library has purchased approximately 150 kids science-related books, which have circulated over 950 times.

The long-term goal is to grow the endowment from its current $62,000 to $100,000. Reaching that milestone will generate dependable annual income to support high-quality science programming at the library—year after year, for generations to come.

You can help spark curiosity, encourage discovery, and invest in the future of our island’s children. Please consider making a one-time gift to the Ken Gibbs Fund for Youth Science Education at: https://oicf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=2757.
