On Thursday, March 4, friends of author Stephen Guy will read from his collection of poems, Heartspeak at 7 p.m. at Darvill’s Bookstore.

The reading is a fundraiser for the Orcas Island Education Foundation, which has been instrumental in the last several years in raising and directing private donations to the support of the Orcas Island School District.

“When your heart speaks, take good notes,” were the words from a friend, Mary Ellen Gaylord, on a journal she gave Stephen Guy when his Orcas Island farm was dedicated at a blessing ceremony in 1997.

This sweet “keepsake” book of poems aptly called Heartspeak was compiled from notes he kept in that journal of Eastlight Farm. A recent issue of “Appreciative Living”  E-zine disclosed how Stephen derives inspiration and insight  from the property: “ I pay attention to what is presented to me, and when I write it down, it becomes poetry.”

Friends of Stephen Guy and Eastlight Farm will be reading from the collection.  Light refreshments will be served. Stephen is gifting all the proceeds received from the sale of Heartspeak to the Orcas Island Education Foundation.
