Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 8 a.m. at the Skillet
— from Chris White for Orcas Lions —
This Wednesday, the 25th The Orcas Island Lions club invites you to our breakfast meeting — 8 a.m. at the Island Skillet. As usual, coffee is on the Lions, breakfast is on your own.
We will have two guest speakers at this meeting.
First, Lion Don Webster will speak about Camp Horizon and its efforts to bring the facility up to code. Camp Horizon is a unique summer camp for those with special needs! Here is the link to know more about it, https://lionscamphorizon.com and yes, they need help in raising funds for fire code compliance efforts, check out this most amazing camp. (If you wish to volunteer for this camp let us know, I hear help in the kitchen can be rewarding and fun!)
Our second speaker will be Margie Doyle, Interim Executive Director at Orcas Center. She will speak to Sunrise Volunteers on recent developments at the Center. If you have an interest in volunteering for the Center or just want to hear the remarkable happenings, come listen.
Monty Python fans will be glad to know that a local production of “Spamalot” is coming in March; and before that, live events including a presentation of the revolutionary 8Stem music production application and a sing-along to “Grease!” are up next! There’s something for everyone at Orcas Center, come hear about it — 8 a.m. at The Island Skillet
And bringing a friend along is always OK.
Great turnout, the speakers were informative and energizing. Orcas Island Lions donated $3000.00 towards the special adult needs Camp Horizon in Blaine WA. If you wish to donate go to Camp Horizons web site https://lionscamphorizon.com . They still need some help getting to the goal.
Margie presented an energetic list of activities that the Orcas Center has planned, truly amazing! Opportunities to volunteer abound, I will be calling Margie to volunteer myself!
For those who might be interested in becoming a Sunrise Volunteer or an Orcas Lion please email me to learn more about the programs, they are easy and rewarding.
