The Hospital District has hired a full time Superintendent effective Nov 15, 2022
Compensation of $160,000. + benefits
Orcas Island Highest Paid Employees as of 2020
Eric Webb – School Superintendent $146 816.
Clearly, attracting skilled candidates to Orcas requires paying a wage that * may* allow the employee to rent a home locally. With the average house selling for $1M or better, home ownership is likely not affordable even with an annual salary of $160,000. All organizations need to be aware of this new reality and plan accordingly.
I look forward to working with the new superintendent. Welcome!
Good news. According to Redfin the average selling price in SJC for September 2022 was $813K, down 4.4% and trending downward.

Good thing SJC completed its new property tax assessments before the downturn.
