Gretchen, I don’t mean to rain on your parade, but…
“…Chamberlain’s aeroplane landed at Heston Aerodrome on 30 September 1938 and he spoke to the spectators there:
The settlement of the Czechoslovak problem which has now been achieved is, in my view, only the prelude to a larger settlement in which all Europe may find peace. This morning I had another talk with the German Chancellor, Herr Hitler, and here is a paper which bears his name upon it as well as mine. Some of you perhaps have already heard what it contains, but I would just like to read it to you. ” … We regard the agreement signed last night and the Anglo-German Naval Agreement as symbolic of the desire of our two peoples never to go to war with one another again”.[3]
Later that day, he stood outside 10 Downing Street, again read from the document and concluded:
“My good friends, this is the second time in our history that there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Now I recommend you go home and sleep quietly in your beds.[3]…”

Here is the place and time for our peaceful protest:
Saturday, October 18 | 1:30 to 3:30 pm | Eastsound Village Green Park | 203 N Beach Rd | Orcas Island
Heard on the radio: The first “No KIngs” rallies were in 1775 and 1776, and established a foundation for the Declaration of Independence and later our Constitution and our Bill of RIghts. (Those would be rights like, freedom of speech and due process.)
Today’s rallies seem to follow and support those patriotic traditions, and also the “big tent” theory that Democracy encourages political coalitions of people with diverse views who band together on issues where they can agree.
As I see it, it is easy for R’s and D’s and I’s and others all to coalesce around the concept of “No Kings” during a month when our President acted like the monarch kings of history by selecting enemies for prosecution (even some whose cases had been dropped by the professional prosecutors), and during a month when Federal law enforcement detains certain types of people unless they are carrying paperwork which proves they are citizens. To those who are saying that by supporting today’s rallies I “Hate America”, I reply: NO — it is the “Spirit of ’76” that defines American values!
