Friday, July 8, 7 – 9 p.m., Random Howse

— from Mandy Troxel —

Bruce_FlyerThis Friday, July 8, Bruce Harvie and Mandy Troxel will be performing live at the Random Howse from 7-9pm. Orcas Islanders know these two from their many musical incarnations around the islands, but when is the last time you saw just the two of them share the Random Howse stage? Expect some wickedly good fingerpicking, a showcase of Mandy’s latest originals, and a healthy dose of sarcastic stage banter (the lowest form of humor). Entertaining for certain!

Bruce Harvie has lived on Orcas for 30 years, and recorded more than 30 CDS (three of them his own). Over the years he has played in numerous bands, featuring bluegrass, blues, surf, classic country and rock and roll. Bruce is a champion of island musicians, and founded Radio Free Olga, a website and podcast that features music made on the islands (www.radiofreeolga.com).

“With a folky voice of clarity that reminds one of early Emmylou Harris, Troxel navigates the waters of love lost and found with songs that offer memorable lines, but no easy answers.” (Bill Mallonee). Mandy’s well-crafted lyrics and head-turning vocals have been catching the ears and hearts of island audiences for over a decade. Mandy and Bruce collaborated on Mandy’s most recent cd, “If Only Words Could Keep Me Warm”, available at www.mandytroxel.com or locally at Darvill’s bookstore.

There is no cover charge for the show, but please do compensate the musicians via the tip jars. The Random Howse will be open for dinner starting at 5pm. Reservations are strongly encouraged at 376-1111.
