Children of all ages are invited to attend a free musical presentation by Hans Mayer at the Orcas Public Library on Sunday, August 23rd, at 1:30 p.m. to celebrate the end of the summer reading program. The free performance will take place on the lawn of Orcas Island Library, weather permitting. Listeners are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for the grass. In case of rain or wind, the event will take place inside the library.
Hans Mayer is no stranger to Orcas Island. He and his wife Carol Erickson lived on Orcas from 2004 to 2007, and they continue to visit regularly. Mayer is a multi-talented musician who writes songs, sings, and plays guitar, mandolin, and Native American flute, performing for children as well as for adult audiences. Mayer’s child-oriented music is well known for its playful, fun-loving spirit and people of all ages are drawn into his engaging performances. Mayer’s album, “Star of the Swingset,” won recognition as a 2000 Parents’ Choice Foundation Recommended Title, and his 2008 album, “Funny Little Creatures,” was selected as a Parents’ Choice Approved Title and as a Children’s Music Web Award Winner. His latest album, “Green,” was released in 2009. More information about Mayer and his music can be found on his website at www.hansmayer.com.
The last day of the summer reading program is August 22nd, and the library is happy to present this special program to celebrate young readers who have participated in summer reading. For more information about the event, please contact Nita Couchman at Orcas Island Library, 376-4985.
