Halley McCormick, daughter of Paige and Frank McCormick, has been named a Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Halley joins approximately 16,000 students nationwide.In a press release issued by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation it was announced:

“These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competitionfor some 8,400 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $36 million, that will be offered next spring.

“To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition… Approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

Halley currently serves as President of the Key Club, a high school service club associated with Kiwanis International. She has been seen in Orcas island theatrical productions, including improvisational work, as Young Pip in the Orcas Center’s production of “Great Expectations,” and at the Ten-Minute play festival last April in a performance of  “Clear,” written by Ron Herman.

She was honored with the “Bunny” annual award for student volunteers by the Orcas Center for Theater and the Performing Arts last spring, and has worked as a counselor at French Camp on Canoe Island last summer.
