By Kevin O’Brien, Orcas Fire and Rescue Chief

This is a friendly update about the little family who lost their home due to fire Easter weekend.

According to Dixie Morrison who is leading the relief effort, Orcas Islanders have responded well with support for the family. Dixie sent me this update on items that would help the family:

They are still looking for a king size bed. Other than that they are doing well with items.

They could use more in the way now of gift certificates for groceries, or money to help pay expenses.

The bank account has been set up at Islanders bank, and there is a donation jar at the village stop.

Dixie may be reached at 376-3482 or by email at dixielmorrison@gmail.com. Please contact Dixie if you would like to offer assistance or have questions about the relief effort.

All donated items can be dropped of at Orcas Family Health Center (1286 Mt. Baker Rd) or Kaleidoscope (1292 North Beach Rd.)

Last week, I was able to meet with the family in their new home provided by OPAL. It is an excellent house for the family.

Thanks to Dixie, OPAL, and all of you for your help.

Take care and stay safe.
