Parents, grandparents, friends and mentors have been coming to share early morning treats with Orcas Island Public School elementary classes since last fall.

Recently, Kindergarten teachers Mandy Randolph and Pam Jenkins hosting a room bursting with kids and grown-ups at a “Parents and Pastries” before-school event with coffee and doughnuts, beginning at 7:50 a.m. and ending at the start of the school day.

Upper-elementary grades (4-5-6) will have the opportunity to have their parents come to the classroom during the next two months as the “Parents and Pastries” program continues.

The program is co-sponsored by the PTSA and the Readiness to Learn (RTL) program at the Orcas Island School District. The State Legislature will have hearings this Tuesday on funding for the statewide RTL programs.
