Thank you to all of the sponsors and participants that made the first annual Steve Resch Memorial Golf Tournament such a success. Steve spent his youth on Orcas Island where he attended Nellie S. MiltonGrade School, Orcas Middle School, and graduated from Orcas Island High School in 1989 as class salutatorian and a three-sport athlete. Steve is a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend. Steve lost his battle with cancer in 2016.
Steve’s soul embodies the spirit of Orcas Island spanning the 1970s through the 1990s and will be greatly missed by multiple generations, including his family and friends, but never forgotten.
Steve requested of his friends and family that a scholarship be arranged for a graduating Orcas
Island High School Senior each year. With great pride, the first Steve Resch Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Bethany Hansen in June of 2017 in the amount of $2,500. Bethany exemplified
all of the attributes important to Steve. She is a true student athlete finishing her time at OIHS as her class’ salutatorian and as an accomplished multi-sport athlete.
Bethany is currently attending Western Washington University. The Steve Resch Memorial Scholarship is being administered through the Sons of the American Legion, Post 93.
In honor and in support of Steve’s wishes, the second annual Steve Resch Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held at the Orcas Island Golf Course on Saturday May 19, 2018. Entrance fees for players will be $133 and includes a cart. This tournament is the primary annual fundraiser to support Steve’s scholarship. As part of this fundraising event, we are reaching out to local businesses and individuals to support this cause with opportunities to sponsor hole on the golf course. Hole and cart sponsorships are available and will include a custom sign. All proceeds will go to the Steve Resch Memorial Scholarship fund. Registration for both players and sponsorships will close on April 27, 2018.
