— from Stan Matthews, County Information Manager —
The San Juan County Council unanimously approved the appointment of Sam Gibboney as the new director of Community Development & Planning last month. She has served as the interim director of the department since October 2013.
Ms. Gibboney has a wealth of experience and expertise in local government. She has worked as a civil engineer and prior to coming to the San Juan Islands, owned her own consulting company that provided project management, communication and organizational development services to government agencies, non-profits and businesses. Her work with community development departments to make their permit processes more balanced and easier to understand was of key interest to the County. County Manager Mike Thomas stated that he believes her “technical expertise and facilitative style” will be of benefit to County staff and applicants alike.
Gibboney has a degree in civil engineering and a Master of Public Administration from the UW Evans School of Public Affairs
