||| FROM KATHERINE BRYANT INGMAN FOR SAN JUAN COUNTY COUNCIL |||

First and most importantly, I bring to the County Council a deep love for these islands and the people who live here. I’m running for County Council to improve the lives of everyone who lives here — especially those of us most impacted by the challenges and uncertainties that we face. I know how knowledgeable, creative, resourceful, and resilient we are. I’ve seen first-hand the power of coalition-building in San Juan County and leveraged that power to help create meaningful and lasting change.

As your representative on County Council, I will help build coalitions across islands and sectors to find creative and lasting solutions to our more complex challenges: a county budget that is balanced and sustainable, a safe and resilient energy future that aligns with our strong agricultural heritage, a multi-generational approach to environmental stewardship, accessible and compassionate healthcare, and affordable and healthy housing for our workers and families.

Successful advocacy relies on a deep understanding of the issues that impact us the most. I know what it takes to live in San Juan County — to work multiple jobs, to jump from rental to rental, to move into a seemingly perpetual fixer-upper. I also know that mine is just one experience of life in the islands. To advocate for our communities,

County Council needs to listen to our communities, and seek out the voices of neighbors who are too busy working, raising families, and taking care of themselves to attend forums, participate in listening sessions, or sit on volunteer boards. A successful term on County Council is not about me and what I’m able to accomplish. It’s about improving the lives of those most impacted.

Public service is core to my identity. I come from a family legacy of public school teachers, administrators, and librarians. This perspective shapes my policy positions, and what I believe is possible when we invest in our communities first. Here on Lopez, I volunteered for several years as a Youth Mentor and now as a high school track coach.

My support for our youth is unwavering. To ensure healthy communities and a strong economy, we must invest in our families and children.

I have the experience, vision, and dedication required for this work, and the support of strong community leaders across our county who I’ll partner with to find equitable, sustainable, and forward-thinking solutions to our most complex challenges.
