||| FROM ORCAS ISLAND GARDEN CLUB |||
With rainy day weather and long nights, fire safety might be the last thing on the minds of the Orcas community. But, with winter’s slower pace, it might be just the right time to plan ways to protect our home and property.
In November, the Orcas Island Garden Club presented Fire-Smart Landscaping for Western Washington with Marlene Finley. She asked us to consider how climate change is predicted to affect weather and its potential impact on us and our surroundings.
Marlene shared ideas about informed garden practices, including fire resistant plants and creating defensible spaces. This link

Additionally, we want to spread awareness of the San Juan Conservation District’s homeowner assistance. They provide home visits assessing fire safety preparedness and advice and their website provides helpful information specific to our area. Wildfire Preparedness in San Juan County.
The OIGC wants to wish everyone a safe and joy filled holiday season.
