Wednesday, January 16, 10 a.m., Orcas Center
— from Helen Huber for Orcas Garden Club —
The Orcas Island Garden Club welcomes Eliza Habegger on Wednesday, January 16 at 10 a.m. at the Orcas Center. Eliza is the director of the Salish Seeds Project for the San Juan County Land Bank. She will introduce a special cast of characters: our local wildflowers and grasses.
Be inspired to save a spot in your garden for one of these beauties! Native to our island grasslands and oak savannas, these plants are showy, drought-tolerant, adaptable to garden settings, and perfect for native pollinators. You’ll learn how to obtain and grow them, including site selection, routine care, and managing pests. This talk will also highlight the basics of collecting and saving seeds.
The Orcas Island Garden Club welcomes new members and encourages gardeners, landscapers, farmers, and those who love nature to enjoy this month’s presentation. After the presentation, visitors are encouraged to stop by our membership table and join the garden club. All attendees may socialize, share gardening info and advice, and enjoy treats in the social hour following the meeting.
