Inaugural “Spring ShakeDown” dance party Saturday, March 31 at Odd Fellows Hall in Eastsound
The island’s premier funky soul band, the Orcas Horns, is throwing a Renaissance-themed dance party on April Fool’s Eve (March 31) at Ye Olde Odd Fellows Hall. Everyone is invited to have a ball while they feast, dance, and masque.
The band is partnering with the Orcas Chamber of Commerce and the Orcas Island Education Foundation to debut its inaugural “Spring ShakeDown” dance party in conjunction with the first annual Orcas Island Shakespeare Festival. In keeping with the spirit of the festival, attendees are encouraged to make merry dressed as characters from jolly olde England, around the time of Shakespeare.
Traditional Shakespearean beverages such as Mead, Cider and Ale will be available by donation with proceeds going towards the Farm to Cafeteria program.
Our friends at The Kitchen will prepare locally grown organic food for the feast with proceeds going to Haiti relief.
Come prepared to shaketh thy booty all night long while the Orcas Horns crank out the funky dance grooves.
Tickets are $12 in advance, or $15 on the night of the event; they may be purchased at Darvill’s Bookstore in Eastsound.
On March 31 the Orcas Horns Will Welcome the Arrival of Spring and Celebrate the Orcas Island Shakespeare Festival.
If music be the food of love, play on….

As a clarification — the “partnering” is not with the Orcas Island Education Foundation — but with Farm to Cafeteria — which OIEF fully endorses and hopes everyone will help to support.
Cometh….and Shaketh….we have rehearsed mightily and are ready to boogieth.
As a special treat for this event, two guest musicians will join the Horns. One of them, Brian Kirk, is a top call drummer out of Seattle who has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Jack McDuff, Lou Donaldson, Bobby Hutcherson, The Pointer Sisters, Gladys Knight, and was first call on New York’s Broadway scene having performed on drumset and vibraphone in Ain’t Misbehavin’, Five Guys Named Moe, Fiddler on the Roof, Les Miserables and Jelly’s Last Jam, featuring Gregory Hines. The Horns are also thrilled to be joined by Seattle musician Jon Goforth, one of the country’s leading commercial recording artists, on tenor saxophone and flute. Jon’s musical voice is heard on more than a thousand commercials, over two hundred albums and on many television shows and movie soundtracks, including Melrose Place, Burke’s Law, The Wedding Planner, and others. He has performed or recorded with internationally notable talents including Nancy Wilson, Smokey Robinson, Martha and the Vandellas, Bo Diddley,…
