||| FROM EMILIE GINCIG for FUNHOUSE COMMONS |||

One of the very special ways that The Funhouse serves teens in our community is by administering four college scholarships annually. We have awarded thousands of dollars over the last 10 years to these deserving young minds, helping to launch them into their futures.

We are proud to help support the dreams and aspirations of our island’s graduating teens and are grateful for the college scholarships funded by the Daniel and Margaret Carper Foundation, Henigson Family, Pichu Fund, and Realtors of Orcas Island.

Grayson White was one of the recipients in 2017 receiving the Henigson Public School Student Fund scholarship which is given out annually, for up to $40,000 for a four-year college or university.

Grayson graduated from Reed College in 2021 and is now attending graduate school. “It’s really hard for me to express how much of a difference this scholarship made for myself and my family. I was able to graduate from Reed debt-free, and that would absolutely have not happened without the scholarship. Without it, I would be in 10’s of thousands of dollars in debt, and my family would have had to put forward a significant amount of money to support me through college. I never wanted my family to have financial hardships due to my college, and the Henigson scholarship allowed for that dream to come true.”

The Funhouse Commons Scholarship, funded by The Daniel and Margaret Carper Foundation, is awarded annually for full tuition gap funding for a two-year or four-year Washington State public school. This scholarship is for students who demonstrate a determination to succeed, a passion for their education, and are committed to completing college directly after high school.

The Pichu Fund scholarship is given to a Latinx student who has plans to continue studies beyond high school. The scholarship is intended to support further education at community college, 4 year college, accredited trade school, accredited agricultural school or a bonafide apprenticeship or professional training program.

The Funhouse Commons/Realtors of Orcas Island grant is awarded to a graduating senior who demonstrates genuine commitment and care in serving their community.

All four scholarships have helped Orcas teens achieve goals that would not be possible without the support of these amazing donors. The positive impact that these scholarships have made on their future is immeasurable. It is The Funhouse’s greatest joy to help prepare these teens for the world.
