— from the Office of Governor Inslee —

State of the State speech

The 2020 Legislative Session, which kicked off Jan. 13, is in full swing. Legislators heard a variety of bills, including some of Gov. Jay Inslee’s request legislation around greenhouse gas limits, vaping and gun safety.

Other governor priorities include a ban on high capacity magazines and assault weapons, both proposed jointly with Attorney General Bob Ferguson.

Additionally, the governor’s supplemental budget proposal offers a comprehensive, thoughtful approach that could reduce firearm violence incidents through data-driven and research-based approaches.

Another governor-requested bill would ban the sale of flavored vapor products in Washington. This comes after the governor signed a bill last year that raised the legal age to purchase tobacco and vaping products, and changed the way state agencies monitored and regulated the vaping industry.

Other bills on the governor’s priority list include a multi-family tax exemption housing bill, a shelter capacity billclean fuel standards, and greenhouse gas limits and domestic worker protections. The greenhouse gas limits bill moved out of the Energy and Environment Committee this week and onto the next step.

The 60-day session is scheduled to run through March 12, 2020.
