Vegetarians of Washington, the organizers of the biggest vegetarian food festival in the country, will be on Orcas Island to give a free three-hour presentation and cooking demonstration on Sunday, November 4th at 1 p.m.. Open to non-vegetarians, too, this event is their “Vegetarian Solution” class, which teaches easy ways to add healthier food to any lifestyle.

The many benefits of a vegetarian diet will be presented alongside the delicious cooking class, including hints and tips on preparing key vegetarian ingredients, and tasting lots of samples. Your questions will also be answered by this non-profit, which encourages people to discover the advantages, and experience the pleasures, of vegetarian food. This free class will take place at the Orcas Christian School kitchen, located at 107 Enchanted Forest Road. To register, either email orcas@vibrantvegetarian.com, call 376-2876, or go to www.vegofwa.org/classes.aspx.

Vegetarians of Washington has written four books to help people change their diets, including Vegetarian Pacific Northwest, a guidebook to vegetarian and veg-friendly restaurants and natural food stores throughout Washington and Oregon, The Veg-Feasting Cookbook, a cookbook featuring recipes from local restaurants and chefs, The Vegetarian Solution by Stewart Rose, an informative but easy read about the many benefits of a vegetarian diet, and Say No to Meat by Amanda Strombom and Stewart Rose, covering all the questions many people have when first changing their diets.
