A workshop for local contractors entitled “Land Development Permits and Practices – the Good, the Bad and the Ugly” will be held Friday April 26, at the San Juan Island Grange in downtown Friday Harbor.
This unique training opportunity is designed to help professional land development contractors including excavators, septic installers, builders, landscapers, owners and operators of heavy machinery and other interested land use professionals improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their businesses. Attendees will learn about new regulations, how to navigate the permit process and best practices to help save time and money and achieve resource protection standards.
Experts from the Washington Department of Ecology, the San Juan Islands Conservation District, FRIENDS of the San Juans, San Juan County and a private land use consultant, will cover regulations, permitting and best practices for shorelines and stormwater, including erosion control and low impact development.
The training will run from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm at the San Juan Island Grange in Friday Harbor.

The Land Development Permits and Practices workshop is being hosted by FRIENDS of the San Juans with funding support from the Puget Sound Partnership. FRIENDS is frequently contacted by landowners and professionals with questions and concerns on permitting, new regulations and compliance. This workshop will bring together local and state permitting agencies, a land use consultant and contractors to share new information to improve the land development process in San Juan County.
