The Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival is pleased to be able to offer an exciting educational opportunity this August. Festival artist and popular and frequent Musician in Residence Monique Mead will be offering a Summer Tune-up Session for string players from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8. Violinists, violists, and cellists high school age and older are all welcome.
The day will start with a 60-minute workshop on “Turning Notes into Music” using themes of Schubert’s Trout Quintet, focusing on bowing techniques for more expressive playing. Following that, participants will visit a rehearsal of the Trout Quintet itself as Festival musicians prepare for their performance the following two evenings. The session ends as class attendees enjoy a brown bag lunch with the Festival artists, for an incomparable experience of comradery with truly world class players.
Ms. Mead is well known to local students and lovers of music. An international performer, professor, and Director of Music Entrepreneurship at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she has appeared regularly with the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival since 2004 and has worked annually with Orcas Schools and other local string players for the past eight years.
