"Free Desiree," an original, one-woman show, comes to the Black Box on June 9

Saturday, June 9 at 8 p.m. at the Orcas Center Black Box

It’s 1972!  Bell bottoms rule, everybody’s doing the Philly Dog, and Soul Train comes on every Saturday morning. But instead of enjoying life, Desiree is in crisis mode. The drummer in her high school band has committed suicide and no one seems to be the least bit concerned.

Not Mr. Blackburn, the band instructor, who only cares about his upcoming Greatest Marches of All Time concert. Not her cheerleader sister, Shauna, who is busy plotting how to become the first pom-pom wielding Blaxploitation star. And certainly not the student body, that are consumed with learning the Boogaloo in time for the Winter Ball. Desiree, disgusted with the level of apathy around her, tries to wake people up, and in the process, comes to her own startling realizations.

The result is an amazing, funny, moving, powerful 90 minutes of theatre, titled, “Free Desiree,” written and performed by Seattle actress/writer, Amontaine Aurore which will be coming to the Black Box Theatre at the Orcas Center for one night only on June 9 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased with checks or exact change at Darvill’s bookstore or with a credit card online at: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/249714

This  is a guaranteed great night in the theatre, hilarious, moving and unique!  You will be glad you were there!
