San Juan County’s Health and Community Services Department has announced that food worker education and testing is now available online from any computer which can access the Internet.
The online food handling safety instruction and test costs $10 and requires payment with a Mastercard, Visa or Discover credit or debit card. A printer is also required to print out the card after the applicant passes the test.
The process, including the training on food safety, takes an average of about 45 minutes. People who do not have access to a home computer may use computers at public libraries on San Juan, Lopez and Orcas Islands. The libraries ask test takers to call ahead to insure that 45-minutes to an hour of uninterrupted computer time will be available.
The web-based test is available online at: https://www.foodworkercard.wa.

As someone who renews my food workers license ever two years or so, I am happy at this new level of accessibility. Thank you to all those who collaborate to make this possible!
I have often been known to utter all kinds of retorts, most of which could not be used in proper company, because we have become such a bunch of slaves to the greatest collection of garbage since the collectors were on strike in New York City for several months……but finally something as simple as a tutorial for a test followed by the test itself comes along that shuts me up. My congrats to whoever designed this online test for food handler’s licenses. Unlike many of it’s forebearers, it is flawless.
