Donations raised during December through Register Round Up and 3% Thursday, December 20 will support the co-op’s Generator Fund!

Orcas Food Co-op’s Community Hero Program includes 3% Thursday, Register Round Up and Coins for Community. On the third Thursday of each month 3% of the gross receipts of Orcas Food Co-op are donated to pre-selected community organizations. Last month, the Community Hero Program raised $1,230.18 benefitting the Orcas Island Senior Center. This month the Co-op’s Generator Fund will benefit throughout December with 3% Thursday on December 20.

In the islands we are more vulnerable to unplanned power outages and other disasters. During the darkest days, we want our Co-op to be a community hub and sanctuary, a warm place for people to meet and gather, share resources, plug in cell-phones and other devices, and of course eat healthy and delicious food. With a new generator we can even host Game Night upstairs when the power goes out.

A generator will be installed that will enable us to remain fully operational and keep our food fresh. We have all been impacted during past outages when the Co-op has been unable to keep the doors open.  Now you’ll be able continue to shop for all your favorite food, even during the worst outages.

You can also Round-up at the Register all month long to donate to the Generator Fund. It’s easy to Round Up your purchase. When your cashier asks you if you want to round up, simply say “Yes!” and you can help the co-op purchase a generator. If you’d like to donate more than the roundup you can do that too. Just let your cashier know the amount you want to donate, and they can add it to your transaction. Donating to a great cause couldn’t get much simpler than that!
