Sunday, January 26, 8 p.m., Orcas Adventist Fellowship Church

— from Jeffrey Cohan for Salish Sea Early Music Festival —

On Sunday at the Orcas Adventist Fellowship Church in Eastsound at 8 p.m., we’re excited to present a new set of five suites from an extensive and completely unknown manuscript which Louis XIV’s music librarian Andre Danican Philidor l’ainé prepared for evening concerts for “his Majesty” during the last two years of his life.

Philidor’s arrangements present Louis’ favorite music from the past four decades in an intimate instrumental setting then favored by the king. These suites, discovered in Paris by Jeffrey Cohan, are not to be found online and most likely have not been performed since the death of Louis XIV.
