Suddenly, Orcas is buzzing. The sidewalks are full of meandering families, tents dot the lakeside in Moran, trailhead parking lots are full and we are jumping off the high dive into summer craziness. Wahooo!

The Orcas Community Resource Center is hosting events to bring the community together this year. They kicked off their effort with a Dios del Ninos celebration at the Funhouse last month. The next event is a walk in Moran State Park, happening on Sunday July 30 from 2-5 at Cascade Lake. There will be treats and prizes. Hope you are able to attend.

The Chamber of Commerce has organized a very fun-filled Fourth, starting with a 5k run/walk. The festivities continue on the Green with cake walks, pie contests, music and more. Fireworks top off the day at 10.  Fireworks return to Deer Harbor as well this year. Their show is on the 3rd.  If you are interested in supporting any of these events, you can donate directly through the Orcas Island Community Foundation.

The Annual Fourth of July parade will happen on the 6th. The Volunteer Association hosts a pancake breakfast at the Fire Hall prior to the parade and then the Lions have their Salmon Bake that afternoon. If you are still on your feet, head to the Orcas Center for the Animal Protection Society’s Gala.

We sure like to pack the most into these long summer days!

Hope to see you out and about!
