On Wednesday, June 10, a fire burned over 10 acres near West Sound.
Firefighters from Lopez and San Juan Islands came to the assistance of Orcas Island firefighters in fighting the wildland fire in Crow Valley.
On June 11, Ken Speck, who witnessed the fire from an airplane, reported, “It was above the West Sound Deli, and could have been HUGE, but they got it stopped. John Thompson had a dozer in the area and cut a fire trail which really helped save it.”
