Orcas Island Fire & Rescue will be offering an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class for community members interested in becoming volunteers.  “The first class will be Saturday, January 9th”, said Division Chief, Patrick Shepler.

“We already have nearly a full class, but we can still consider last minute applications; especially from the Eastern and Western areas of the island.”

The class is about 120 hours, including a clinical rotation at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham and/or Fire Rescue.  Final testing being off-island via computer-adaptive testing through the National Registry of EMTs.  “We are looking for active volunteers who are capable of delivering the best care possible under the worst conditions possible,” said Shepler.

For information, call Lindsay or Chad at 376-2331, or come by the Eastsound Fire Station across from the airport.
