Crews from Orcas Island Fire & Rescue remain on scene at this time for a structure fire in Olga. Crews responded to an alarm sounded at 12:12 PM to a home on Moultry Farms Rd. They found an active fire appearing to have originated in the area of the garage. Due to the diligent efforts of responders, the house was able to be saved; however the garage and its contents appear to be a total loss.

Approximately 15 to 20 volunteers and staff responded to the alarm. At this time there have been no injuries to either personnel or occupants of the home. Crews remain on scene working on hotspots in and near the home. Responders expect to remain in the area at least throughout the afternoon.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. More information and updates will be provided as soon as they are made available.

OIFR reminds all island residents to test your smoke detectors to ensure they are working properly and have new batteries installed at least twice a year. We also take this opportunity to remind people to check your live trees and Christmas lights to ensure that the tree is not dry and lights are free of any exposed wires or hot bulbs.
