Given the departure of Chief Kevin O¹Brien, the Board of Fire Commissioners has appointed Assistant Fire Chief Mik Preysz to the position of Acting Fire Chief for Orcas Island Fire and Rescue, effective April 15, 2015.
Acting Chief Preysz has an admirable record of 38 years in public service and 23 years of service with OIFR. Commission Chair Barbara Bedell commented,
By appointing Assistant Chief Mik Preysz to Acting Chief of Orcas Island Fire and Rescue, the Commissioners feel that this is the best course of action to ensure continuity in providing EMS, fire, and rescue services to the people of Orcas Island.
Through Acting Chief Preysz¹s professionalism, dedication and a well-developed transition plan, we feel that the District is in capable hands and that progress on current significant initiatives will continue in a timely manner.
Mik has experience and the respect of the OIFR members. He is the right choice for heading the department through the coming months, during the search for a new Chief.
