August 8 and 9 – Public School Home Ec Room – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Fifth Season” is a term used when foods have been harvested, frozen, stored and set aside for use during one of the other four seasons. For the third straight year, the Farm to Cafeteria Program has received delicious, fresh summer produce, fruits and herbs from Island farms that are not normally available during the school year. Willing volunteers gather together to slice, dice, peel, and freeze those items so they can be used in school lunches during the coming school year.
Willing volunteers are very much needed to help on the August 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to process and store the food. This year, a sizable delivery of items is expected from local farms. F2C received a grant from Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Foundation to purchase badly needed equipment for preparing the foods, as well as buy more items from the local farms.
Lexi Cuthbert, an OASIS Junior, will be videotaping the event as a film project to accompany a response to Lowe’s Education Toolbox Foundation showing how their grant monies were used to benefit our public school’s Farm to Cafeteria Program.
If you have any time available to help on either or both days, please call Madie Murray at 376-3064 or email gomadie@gmail.com. You only need to bring your willing hands and an apron. Our kids and Farm to Cafeteria thanks you!!
