Saturday, June 29, Noon – 4 p.m., April’s Grove
— from Crystal Mossman for OPAL —
Starting with a Field Day on June 29, the Orcas Island Community Foundation will be hosting a special online GiveOrcas campaign to benefit OPAL’s April’s Grove project of 45 new affordable rental townhomes.
OICF recognizes access to affordable housing is the most pressing need currently facing the Orcas community.
“When our workforce, our seniors, and our young families can’t find places to live, the entire island suffers,” explains executive director Hilary Canty. “We are hoping that this special GiveOrcas campaign will not only help to raise money for OPAL’s April’s Grove, but also help foster a greater understanding of the problem and the possible solutions.”
To kickoff this GiveOrcas campaign OICF and OPAL will be putting on a Field Day for April’s Grove on the afternoon of June 29 at Orcas Center.
Festivities begin at noon and continue until 4:00 p.m. with an afternoon of food, games for both kids and adults, and live music. Entry is by donation, so come to the north lawn of the Orcas Center and have a hot dog, listen to some local live music and compete for prizes to help April’s Grove cross the finish line.
The day will finish with the Gala OPAL Evening in the Madrona Room at the Orcas Center. Come for a delicious meal, followed by a dessert dash and ending with a paddle raise to support permanently affordable housing on Orcas. Tickets $125 per person.
