Meeting also scheduled on March 12 in Anacortes with the system-wide Ferry Community Partnership

Members of the San Juan County Ferry Advisory Committee  John Whetten and Jim Corneman, will be in attendance at a meeting on Lopez Island about Washington State Ferries (WSF) issues during the current Legislative session. The FAC members will be joined by  Tom Cowan, new State Transportation Commissioner, and founders of the San Juan Islands Ferry Group.

All interested islanders are welcome to attend the meeting on Wednesday, March 9 from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Lopez library meeting room.

Susan Young, a co-founder of the San Juan Islands Ferry Group, says, “The purpose of this public meeting is to provide current information about what is going on with WSF in Olympia and with our San Juan route, and to give participants the opportunity to raise questions and issues of concern.

“Attendees will also learn more about the San Juan Islands Ferry Group and ways its members are working with the FAC and the Ferry Community Partnership to find feasible solutions to the challenges currently faced by the ferry system.”

Young says, “We want to do more outreach; we think it’s part of the solution.’

Along those lines, Young announces a meeting of the Ferry Community Partnership (FCP) in Anacortes on Saturday, March 12, planned to coordinate with the ferry schedule to and from the San Juan Islands. Members of the Partnership are coming from Vashon and Bremerton, where meetings are usually held, in response to the interest expressed by San Juan Islanders. The FCT is  actively lobbying with the legislature “to figure out what ferry riders want,” says Young.

The Anacortes meeting will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Further information is available on San Juan Ferry Group’s website, sanjuanislandsferrygroup

Rides from the ferry terminal to the Anacortes Library are being arranged; a response on the website is necessary to make the arrangements. For further information, contact Susan Young at468-2979 or email sjbrooks@aol.com
