The San Juan County Elections Office has mailed ballots to all voters living in the San Juan Island School District No. 149 for the February 10 Special Election.

The February Special includes a ballot measure for the San Juan Island School District No. 149. The measure is concerning a replacement enrichment levy. This proposition authorizes the District to levy the following excess taxes on all taxable property within the District to support the District’s educational programs and operational expenses, including instruction, special education, and operational expenses. Eligible voters who have not received a ballot by January 28 should call the elections office at 360-378-3357 to request a replacement. Replacement ballots can also be requested by email at elections@sanjuancountywa.gov or accessed electronically at VoteWA.gov.

VOTING BY MAIL 

If returning by mail, USPS recommends mailing at least a week before Election Day.  Otherwise, return to an official ballot drop box. If mailing on election day, have the post office handstamp your ballot.  San Juan County mail is delivered to Seattle and then processed the following days.

REGISTER TO VOTE

The deadline to submit new voter registrations and voter updates to existing registrations online or by mail is 5 p.m. on February 2. Voters may still register and update existing voter registrations in person at the Elections office, 55 2nd St. Ste. A, Friday Harbor, by 8 p.m. February 10. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

HOW DO I REGISTER TO VOTE IN WASHINGTON?

It’s easy and secure to register online, by mail with a paper form, or at the county elections office. Check your registration at VoteWA.gov.

To register to vote in the state of Washington, you must be:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • A resident of Washington state
  • At least 18 years old
    • If you are 16 or 17, you can sign up as a Future Voter and be automatically registered to vote when you qualify
  • Not disqualified from voting due to a court order
  • Not currently serving a sentence of total confinement in prison under the jurisdiction of the department of corrections for a Washington felony conviction
  • Not currently incarcerated for a federal or out-of-state felony conviction

WHAT IF I MISS THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER ONLINE OR BY MAIL?

Washington offers same-day registration services through Election Day. 8 days prior to the election, you must register (or update) in person at the Elections Office.
