Volunteers Needed

OLYMPIA – The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) is seeking volunteers to evaluate grant proposals that will help decide which parks and trails should be funded and what wildlife habitat should be conserved in the state.
RCO is looking to fill vacancies on five advisory committees that will evaluate and rank grant proposals this spring and summer for all types of recreation around the state. Volunteers should have experience in creating parks or conserving wildlife lands. Other skills such as project design or management, landscape architecture, planning, engineering, permitting or property acquisition are valuable also. Volunteers serve 4 years. Applications are due April 1.
The following volunteers are needed:
- Two local government volunteers for the Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account program, which provides grants to buy, improve and conserve tidelands and shorelines for the public. Volunteers should be familiar with recreation and public access interests.
- Two citizens and one local government volunteers for the Land and Water Conservation Fund program, which provides grants to preserve and develop parks, trails and wildlife lands.
- One citizen volunteer for the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program’s Local Parks program, which provides grants to acquire, develop and renovate local parks.
- Two local government volunteers for the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program’s State Lands Development and Renovation program, which provides grants to develop or renovate outdoor recreation areas on lands owned by the Washington Departments of Fish and Wildlife and Natural Resources. Volunteers should have a statewide perspective on parks and recreation.
