San Juan County’s Environmental Stewardship Department is requesting Salmon Recovery project proposals for the Salmon Recovery Funding Board (SRFB) 2024 grant funding cycle. Private citizens, non-profit organizations, local, state, and tribal governments, and special districts are invited to apply. Letters of Intent are due February 16, 2024.

In addition to regular Salmon Recovery projects, this year’s grant round will also include special Riparian funding that has been allocated through the Climate Commitment Act for Riparian projects in San Juan County. The exact amount of available funding in San Juan County is not yet confirmed but is estimated to include the following: between $373,000 to $431,000 for 2024 regular SRFB funded projects; $1,033,444 for 2025-2027 Puget Sound Acquisition and Restoration (PSAR) funded projects; and $485,592 for new Special Riparian funding.

Projects must be located in the San Juan Islands and adjacent waters. Previously funded projects have included acquisition and conservation easements on high priority shoreline properties, the removal of shoreline armor impacting nearshore habitat, and freshwater habitat restoration projects.

A one-page ‘Letter of Intent’ is due to the San Juan County Department of Environmental Stewardship via email at samw@sanjuancountywa.gov. The letter must be received by 5 p.m. on February 16, 2024.   You will have the option to discuss your project during a virtual meeting with the technical team on March 6th, 2024.
