For the kids: Karen Ladd, vice president of Emmanuel Parish St. Agnes Guild, presents $500 to Vala Ross, assistant director of Kaleidoscope preschool, from 2017 Market Day earnings. Kaleidoscope serves kids from birth to 12 years, including this great class of enthusiastic preschoolers.

You came, you bought, you did good work for Orcas Island. Emmanuel Episcopal Parish in Eastsound is donating $6,000 from its July 2017 Market Day sale to local community programs.

“The generosity of Orcas Islanders never ceases to amaze me,” said Rev. Berto Gándara-Perea, Emmanuel’s rector. “All this money comes from the people who donated items to our Market Day sale and the people who bought things from it. The spirit of this community is a blessing to us all.”

Receiving organizations include:

• Camp Orkila
• Children’s House
• Dinner Kitchen
• Food Bank
• Kaleidoscope
• Lahari
• Mercy Flights
• Odd Fellows
• SAFE San Juans

Treats, not tricks: On Halloween, Karen Ladd (right), vice-president of the Emmanuel Church St. Agnes Guild, presented $750 to Susan McBain, vice-president of the Orcas Island Food Bank board.

Emmanuel’s women’s group, the St. Agnes Guild, has sponsored its Market Day rummage sale annually since the 1930s. A similar Holiday Sale will be at the Emmanuel parish hall, Sat., Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
