— from Lynn Baker for Emmanuel Episcopal Parish —

Just before Thanksgiving, Emmanuel Episcopal Parish delivered checks totaling $6,500 in proceeds from its 2018 Market Day sale in July to eight Orcas Island charities.

“We love the way the people of Orcas circulate their resources through Market Day,” said Emmanuel’s Rector, Berto Gándara-Perea. “Thanks to the many Orcas residents who gave us things to sell at Market Day, and to the many who picked up good deals at the sale. Market Day helps us share our blessings with one another.”

Receiving charities this year include:

  • The Dinner Kitchen – $750
  • Kaleidoscope Preschool and Child Care Center – $750
  • Orcas Aviation Association Mercy Flight Program – $750
  • Orcas Community Resource Center – $2,000
  • Orcas Island Food Bank – $750
  • Orcas Island Park and Recreation District (for children’s dance scholarships) – $500
  • Orcas Senior Center – $500
  • SAFE San Juans – $500

In addition to donating to other island non-profits, Emmanuel is using 2018 Market Day funds to replace the deteriorating fence on the west side of the church property.

Market Day is a donated-goods sale organized the last Saturday of July by Emmanuel’s women’s group, the St. Agnes Guild. 2018 was the parish’s 78th annual Market Day.
