The Five Bells, from left Tom Jeffries, Molly Johnson, Dimitri Stankevich, Bruce Kelly and Ginni Keith

The noon Brown Bag Concert at Emmanuel Church on Wednesday, August 4,  will feature the music of the Five Bells Brass Quintet.

This popular group was formed in 2006 for the purpose of reading and preparing challenging music in a collaborative environment.  The players include Tom Jeffries and Ginni Keith on trumpet and flugelhorn; Bruce Kelly on horn; Molly Johnson on trombone; and Dimitri Stankevich on tuba.

Tom lives on Lopez Island and is the former principal trumpet with the San Jose Symphony and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.  Molly lives on Orcas Island and holds a BA in music theory and performance from UCLA.  Bruce lives in Redmond, is the principal horn of Redmond’s Eastside Symphony and is on the board of the Northwest Mahler Festival.  Ginni lives on Lopez and has degrees in music performance and music education from the University of Washington.  Dimitri lives on Orcas and holds degrees in music performance and music education from Western Washington University.

The Brown Bag concerts have been a summer tradition at Emmanuel for over twenty years, giving audiences the opportunity to hear local musicians performing something for everyone, from classical to jazz.

The Music Committee at Emmanuel Parish is grateful to all the musicians who graciously donate their time for the enjoyment of the community and to ensure the continuation of the music camp scholarship given to a young Orcas musician each summer to participate in music camp. Although the concerts are free, donations are gratefully accepted for the camp fund.

Don’t miss this and upcoming concerts on Wednesdays at noon. Audiences are invited to bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy on the church lawn after the concert.
