Wednesday, September 12, 1 p.m., Orcas Senior Center

— from Tom Eversole and Vicki O’Keefe for Orcas Senior Center —

September is National Preparedness Month. The needs of Orcas Islanders can vary greatly from mainland folks and from each other. Don’t be caught by surprise when the earth starts shaking and the water is out of service. As part of its new initiatives grant, the Orcas Senior Center Nonprofit is working to raise awareness of the needs of seniors in preparing for and responding to disasters.

We are hosting an Emergency Preparedness event on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Lundeen Room at the Orcas Senior Center. Presenters include Dave Halloran from San Juan County Department of Emergency Management, and RJ Meyers, Fire Marshall from Orcas Island Fire and Rescue.

Emergency Preparedness Start-up supplies will be available with some basic items, information and directions on how to make your own more inclusive home kit. Visit our website (orcasseniors.org) for more info and tips on emergency preparedness for seniors.
