New experimental film festival to sponsor new films to be shot in the San Juan Islands
— The 1st Annual Orcas Island Film Festival will offer filmmakers an opportunity to receive a $1,500 grant to produce a film to be shown at the Orcas Island Film Festival, taking place on Orcas Island, October 10 – 13, 2014. Scripts are due July 11 and can be submitted through the festival website at www.orcasfilmfest.com/call/.
With the theme “Off the Edge,” the OIFF will be an ongoing experiment in cross-pollinating various artistic mediums with film as the synergistic force. The festival will show a curated selection of feature length and short films to an audience of local islanders and visitors, and will focus on films of the avant-garde, experimental, and emerging edge film culture from around the world. OIFF will feature the most progressive directors, stories, techniques and ideas.
Sponsored by the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) and Orcas Open Arts, OIFF is dedicated to fostering an informed, aware, and vibrant community of film lovers in the San Juan Archipelago. “Our mission is to harness the creative energy of film to build a more inspired and vibrant community in the San Juan Archipelago,” says OIFF creative director, Jared Lovejoy. “We want to encourage new work from amazing filmmakers from the islands and from around the world.”
The festival is looking for sponsors and more information available at orcasfilmfest/sponsorship/.
