Join the conversation on San Juan County – Cross-Borders, Cross-Industries at the 10th Annual EDC Economic Forecast Luncheon, held at Brickworks in Friday Harbor on Wednesday, May 8th from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.  Catered lunch by San Juan Bistro will be served.

This year’s topic is San Juan County – Cross-Borders, Cross-Industries, which will examine international trade, innovation, and security as they relate to the San Juan County economy. 

The speakers will include Dr. Laurie Trautman, noted border policy expert and Director of the Border Research Institute at WWU; Brian Young, Director of Economic Development for the Clean Technology Sector at the Washington State Dept of Commerce; and Julia Terlinchamp, Director of Economic Development for the Life Science/Global Health Sector at Commerce.

Dr. Laurie Trautman engages in a range of research activities at Western Washington University, focused on the U.S.-Canada border, particularly in the Washington/British Columbia region, including topics such as trade, transportation, security, and human mobility. In addition to working with faculty and students, she collaborates with the private sector and government agencies to advance policy solutions that balance cross-border flows with the need for efficiency and security.

Brian Young is the Director of Economic Development for the Clean Technology Sector at Commerce; he coordinates statewide economic development efforts for the clean technology sector including commercializing biofuels, consulting on renewable energy projects, and managing cleanup of nuclear waste at Hanford.

Julia Terlinchamp is the Director of Economic Development for the Life Science/Global Health Sector at Commerce; she leads statewide economic development efforts for life science and global health, including biopharmaceutical and medical device companies and non-profit research institutions.
